2014 Elections: Different Lessons For Different Political Parties

The results of 2014 general elections offer different lessons for different political parties and persons.

New Delhi: With the results of the marathon general elections being declared, the lessons the same offer are interesting to note.

1) Congress had to learn in hard way that people of the country can’t be taken for granted that they can conduct administration in the way they want.

2) Congress is enjoying fruits of its various scams (in the form of dismal performance).

3) With the haste and unscientific methodology to split AP that the congress adopted, the party has been forced to limit with 21 MLA & 2 MP seats (against united AP contribution of 294 MLA & 42 MPs). Congress has got this success only in Telangana and in Seemandhra the party has not been able to open account at all.

4) TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu wanted alliance with BJP keeping single point of agenda i.e, development in the mind. The alliance got good acceptance from the people of the state and it can be seen in the form of 106 MLA & 17 MPs in the region (against total 175 MLA & 25 MP seats).

5) BJP’s rainbow alliance in Tamilnadu ensured that the alliance is able to contain the Jayalalithaa’s force in 2 seats (out of total 39 MPs in the state).

6) Jayalalithaa faced the elections without any alliance and won 37 seats. The AIADMK supremo could not finalize any pre-poll alliance with NDA/BJP and hence her 37 seats might not be able to bring any additional support form centre (that is required for the development of state).

7) Mamata Banerjee also facing similar situation as that of Jayalalilthaa. Mamata has been able to win 34 out of 42 seats in West Bengal. Because of her strong resistance to NaMo she did not finalize pre poll alliance with BJP/NDA as such she is not able to offer support of 34 MPs to centre for benefit of the state.

8) Regional parties like SP & BSP (in UP specifically) depended heavily on communal and caste based voting and hence their performance is minimal with SP getting 5 and BSP NIL MP seats.

9) The excellent ground work by BJP ensured that the party has been blessed with 64 (out of 80) MP seats in the biggest state of the country i.e, UP.
