T-CONGRESS ROLE IN POOR PERFORMACNE

Is Telangana Congress Alone Responsible For The Poor Performance In The State?

The outcome of assembly results for the new state of the country have not been in favor of the ruling party.

Hyderabad: The performance of the congress in the state of Telangana has not been satisfactory. Despite the general belief that the congress will be able to get majority and even able to form the government, the results proved otherwise.

Congress projected itself as the party that ‘gave Telangana’. But the local leadership of the party under the captaincy of Ponnala Laxmaiah has not been able to carry this message to the common man of the state. The party registered win in 23 out of total 119 seats in the state assembly.

The reasons for the poor performance can be attributed to the following reasons:

1) Congress high command was in favor of merger of TRS with congress on declaration of T-state.

2) The local congress leadership wanted to cash the sentiment of ‘giving Telangana’ and hence it was against alliance with TRS.

3) The congress high command (from Delhi) insisted at least a poll alliance with TRS. With TRS very strongly opposing alliance, the congress in the state had to face the elections on its own (without any alliance).

4) As a support, the T-congress forged alliance with CPI at the state level. The alliance also did not have smooth sailing.

5) The groupism in the T-congress is another reason for lack of coordination of campaign in the state.

6) Each of the leader in the T-state project himself as the first CM of the new state and hence there is an internal fight among the leaders.

7) The open fight between Ponnala & Jana Reddy in front of the media also made the people believe that the congress can’t fulfil the peoples’ requirements in terms of development.

8) TRS has been able to attract many of the senior leaders from congress and other parties assuring tickets in the elections. Most of the defectors to TRS brought the required popularity to win the required majority for the TRS to form government.

9) The statements by congress high command (not so harsh against TRS) gave the people a feeling that TRS is an extended arm of congress in the state. This behavior also created confusion among the voters and ultimately they decided to go with TRS rather than congress in the state.

10) There is no star campaigner for the T-congress in the state.

11) The general anti-congress wave present throughout the country is also responsible for the poor performance by T-congress in the elections.

The T-congress has to overcome the above limitations to project itself as strong contender for the ruling position.
