Is Modi Able To Implement His Agenda For The Country?

The newly elected BJP government with Modi as PM is scheduled to swear in on 26th May. There are already many disturbances approaching Modi in his attempt to implement his agenda.

New Delhi: The BJP as a party has alliance with regional parties in many states like Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, Siromani Akali Dal in Punjab. During the current elections, the party entered into an alliance with TDP in AP.

The NDA is a group of more than 25 parties and among them the BJP is the biggest party. Initial poll surveys predicted that the NDA might be slightly falling short of the required majority to form government at centre. In view of these surveys, BJP tried to rope in more and more parties to strengthen the NDA.

Once the results are declared, the BJP itself got the required majority to form government on its own. Despite the BJP’s own strength, BJP leaders went on record to state that the new government at centre would be from NDA (including the alliance partners). With the final results in, the BJP is having discussions on cabinet formation.

Here Modi is likely to get disturbances. The seniors in the BJP are one of the causes of worry for Modi. The instructions from RSS also need to be accepted. The alliance partners also demand their respective share in the cabinet. On one hand, there are marathon discussions between the BJP leaders regarding the new cabinet. RSS, on its part, gave free hand to Modi to decide his cabinet (at least on paper). There are multiple seniors in BJP itself, vying for important portfolios like defence, home, finance etc. Modi has to do a lot of balancing act in finalizing his cabinet.

While the things stand like this, one of the alliance partner Shiv Sena is strongly demanding Modi to adopt ‘tit for tat’ policy towards Pak. “A tit for tat policy should be there for Pakistan. If it is okay with us, we should be okay with them. If it creates trouble, we should teach it a lesson” Shiv Sena Chief Udhav Thackarey told reporters in Mumbai. Shiv Sena has been a trusted ally with BJP in the state of Maharasthra and now has 18 MPs (send largest contributor to NDA after BJP).

Such kinds of statements from NDA partners might limit implementation of Modi agenda towards the national development. While there can be no second thought that Pakistan need to be dealt with the strongest measures, Modi is just becoming the PM and he needs to be provided with sufficient breathing time to plan the action plan in this regard.
