Nasim Zaidi took charge as new CEC of India

18.04.2015: Nasim Zaidi took charge as the new Chief Election Commissioner of India. He is the 20th person to be appointed as CEC of India. He replaces HS Brahma whose tenure completed on 18th April. Nasim Zaidi is an IAs officer who is retired. He belongs to 1976 batch. He retired from services on 31st July. Prior to his retirement he was serving as Secretary, Government of India in Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Sitaram Yechury Elected as New CPI (M) General Secretary

19.04.2015: Mr. Sitaram Yechury is elected as the new CPI (M) General Secretary. He is the fifth general secretary to the party which has history of fifty years. Sitaram Yechury began his political career in 1975. Before that he joined Students Federation of India in 1974. He is now member of Rajya Sabha.

Maharashtra government to Link all Ration Shops with Biometric System

19.04.2015: All ration shops in Mumbai and Thane will be lined with a biometric system. Government decided to implement this by November which helps checking irregularities in public distribution system.

Delhi Metro Trains will run without a Driver

19.04.2015: Very soon we will be able to see driverless metro trains in Delhi. Delhi Metro is going to introduce new generation coaches as part of Phase III expansion. New age signaling system is also going to be introduces in selected corridors. The driverless trains will be able to accommodate more number of passengers.

Bollywood Film Mary Kom Wins Best Film Award at Stockholm International Film Fest

19.04.2015: Bollywood Film Mary Kom which starred Priyanka Chopra in the lead role is named best film at Stockholm International Film Festival Junior in Sweden. It was awarded Bronze Horse which is the highest honor in the festival.

‘Penile Code’, a short film by Indian Journalist Shortlisted for Cannes

19.04.2015: Penile Code, a 14 minute short film made by Sharat Chandra Bose, the 27 year old Indian Scribe is shortlisted for Cannes Film Festival. The short film is going to be screened at the festival between May 13 and May 23.
