Gopinath Pillali won ‘Outstanding Services Award’ in Singapore

26.04.2015: Indian Origin diplomat, Gopinath Pillai is awarded outstanding service award in Singapore for his services. The award was given by National University of Singapore. Gopinath is now serving as Ambassador at large of Singapore. Gopinath Pillai was born in Singapore. He was graduated from University of Malaya. He started his career as a Reuters journalist. He served as non resident Ambassador to Iran and Singapore high commissioner to Pakistan also. He also received Padma Shri in 2012 from India.

Anil Kapoor Honored with Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award 2015

25.04.2015: Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor is honoured with Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award 2015. The award was presented to him by writer and historian Babasaheb Purandare. Dilip Prabhavalkar, Marathi actor was also selected for this award for the year 2015. The award was instituted in 1999 in memory of father of Lata Mangeshkar. It carries Rs. 1,01,001 and a memento. Rishi Kapoor and Zakir Husain were conferred with this award in 2014.

Bhalchandra Nemade Conferred with 50th Jnanapith Award

25.04.2015: Marathi Litterateur Bhalchandra Nemade was conferred with 50th Jnanapith Award. The award carried 11 lakh rupees and a citation. He received the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event in Parliament House in Delhi. Nemade was born in 1938. His popular novel collection includes Kosla, Bidhar, Hool, Jhool and Jagnyachi Samruddha Adgal. He also wrote poems and criticism collection. Other awards he won are the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Shri, Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar, Vishnu Vaman Shirwakkar and Vinda Karandikar.

Google Executive Dan Fredinburg Killed in Nepal Earthquake

26.04.2015: Google executive Dan Fredinburg was killed at a Mount Everest base camp in Nepal earthquake. He was killed in the avalanche that buried the base camp. Few other colleagues of him were survived in the tragedy.

30 Indian Films at New York Film Festival

26.04.2015: The New York Film Festival 2015 will showcase 30 Indian films. These include short films, documentaries and feature films. The festival opens in May with Margarita with a Straw which features Kalki Koechlin in the lead role. The six day long festival will also feature Saari Raat, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Shakespeare trilogy of Maqbool, Daughter of Mother India and others.
