V Ramakrishna, Popular South Indian Singer Passed Away
South Indian Film Industry is yet to recover from the pain casued by death of MS Viswanath and here is shocking news for the music lovers of south. Yesteryears playback singer V Rama Krishna died in the early hours today. He is 68 and is survived by wife Jyothi, son Sai Kiran and Daughter Lekha. He is the close relative of veteran South Indian singer P Susheela.
Hyderabad: Ramakrishna sang nearly five thousand songs in 200 movies. He also released devotion music albums. Ramakrishna was suffering from Cancer since few days and breathed his last in his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.
Vissamraju Ramakrishna was born on 20th august, 1947 in Vijayanagaram to Rangasai and Ratnam. He learnt classical music from Nedunuri Krishnamurthy. He sang songs for NTR, ANR, Sobhanbabu, Krishnam Raju and other top actors of Telugu film industry. He made his mark in signing devotional songs. He entered Telugu film industry with the inspiration of Ghantasala.
Some of the popular movies for which Ramakrishna sang songs are Mahakavi Kshetrayya, Dana Veera Soora Karna, Amara Deepam, Sri Madvirat Veera Brahmendra Swamy Charitra, Shiri Sai Baba Mahatyam, Bali Peetham, Gunavantudu, Alluri Seetharama Raju, Karunamayudu and Andala Ramudu.
Ramakrishna entered Telugu film industry with Vichitra Bandham movie in 1972. He is one of the top male playback singers who rule the industry between 1970 and 80. He married Jyothi Khanna in 1977 and has a son and a daughter. His son Sai Kiran is a singer and actor. Sai Kiran acted as a hero in Nuvve Kavali movie.
V Ramakrishna’s voice was very similar to the voice of legendary singer Ghantasala which is one of the reasons for his success. He used to sing songs in All India Radio before he started career in film industry. He also lent his voice for top heroes. He also acted in many Telugu television serials. His body is now kept at his residence in Jubilee Hills for his fans to pay last homage. His last rites will be performed in Punjagutta today evening at 5.00 pm.
