Telengana Elections 2014: A Lesson For Congress

TRS WON TELANGANA ELECTIONS

Telengana Elections 2014: A Lesson For Congress

The Telangana voters gave their first verdict strongly rejecting the congress in MLA & MP elections as well.

Hyderabad: The much awaited results of general elections to the new state of the country are open. As expected, the results are much in favor of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

The voters clearly bestowed their confidence in this regional party and gave support to the party in the form of 62 assembly and 11 MP seats (against total of 119 & 17 seats respectively.).

Congress has not been able to project the development work done by the party for this region. So also, they have not been able to spread how congress gave Telangana. Most of the senior congress leaders could not ensure their win. Congress contestants like Jayasudha (sitting MLA from Secunderabad), Vijayasanthi (sitting MP from Medak) could not get another success in their account. Senior leaders like Madhu Yashki (Nizamabad sitting MP) lost elections to new entrant Kavita (daughter of KCR on TRS ticket).

The voters of Telangana gave clear mandate to TRS which is required to complete the assurances by the party during the election process.

In this region, congress party has been restricted to 21 MLA seats and 2 MP seats. This is one of the poorest performances by the party in this region in its history. Despite the peak propaganda by al political parties against TDP projecting it as party ‘against Telangana’, TDP in alliance with BJP could win as much as 20 MLA & 2 MP seats. This alliance won the largest MP constituency in the country i.e., Malkajgiri on the ticket of TDP. Another win by the alliance is in the form of Dattatreya from Secunderabad on BJP ticket. This performance is nowhere less than congress’ performance.

The dismal performance of congress in Telangana is beyond anybody’s imagination. The general perception has been that having given Telangana the party would be able to convince the voters that they are best suited for development of the new state as well.

The internal fights (groupism) in congress leaders and lack of coordinated campaign are reasons for congress defeat. The general rejection of congress (throughout the country) can be another reason for the same.
