International Grown Diamond Association Appoints Vishal Mehta as President

8.2.2016: The newly formed International Grown Diamond Association, IGDA appointed Vishal Mehta as the president. This was announced on 4th February. Mehta is the chief executive officer of Ila Technologies. Ila technologies grow diamond at its facility in Singapore.

National Institute of Science Education and Research Inaugurated by Narendra Modi

8.2.2016: Prime minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated National Institute of Science Education and Research near Bhubaneswar, Odhisha. Department of Atomic Energy will govern ISER. The foundation stone for ISER was laid by Manmohan Singh in 2006. The institute offers five year integrated MSC and PhD degrees in applied sciences.

Egar Mitchell, US Astronaut who Walked on the Moon, Passed Away

8.2.2016: Edgar Mitchell, the US astronaut, who was the sixth man to walk on man passed away in Florida. He was 85. Born on 17th September, 1930, he joined NASA in 1966.

Directors Guild of America Award 2015 for Alejandro Gonzalez

8.2.2016: Director Alejandro Gonzalez won the Guild of America award. This is his second award and the earlier award was won for the movie Birdman. Other directors who won the trophy two times include David Lean, Ron Howard, Francis Ford Coppola and others. Steven Spielberg won the award three times and he is the only one director to achieve this.

Sapna Devi Wins Gold in Women’s Wushu Taolu Competition

8.2.2016: Sapna Devi of India won gold medal at 12th Asian Games in Assam in Women’s Wushu Taolu competition. she scored 9.45 points while another player from Nepal Susmita Tamand scored 8.72 points to win the silver medal. Bronze medal was won by Nazia Parvaiz of Pakistan who scored 6.30 points.

India’s First Aviation Park Coming up in Gujarat

8.2.2016: Gujarat is going to be the first state to have an aviation park. Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited said that the park will have airstrip, helipad, training school and so on. This will help strengthen the aviation sector and increase awareness about the potential, said the officials.
