Flipkart appoints Binny Bansal as the New CEO
12.1.2016: India’s e-commerce company Flipkart announced that they promoted chief operating officer Binny Bansal as the chief executive officer. He was earlier the chief operating officer of the company. Sachin Bansal who is the CEO of the company is now the executive chairman.
Bharthi Sihag is the is the new NMDC Chairman
12.1.2016: Bharathi Sihag took additional charge of Chairman of NMDC. She is presently the additional secretary in the Steel Ministry. Her appointment came in to effect from 1st January, 2016. She will be in the post for three months or till another person is appointed at National Mineral Development Corporation. She succeeds Narendra Kothari, whose tenure completed on 31st December, 2015. Gopal Singh, Public Enterprises Selection Board is recommended for the post but is yet to get nod from Appointments Committee. Gopal Singh is the head of Central Coalfields Limited.
12th January Observed National Youth Day
12.1.2016: National Youth Day is observed on 12th January every year. This is the birth day of Swami Vivekananda. This year 153rd birth anniversary of Vivekananda is celebrated grandly in Raipur which was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The day is being held since 12th January, 1985. This is to project him as Indian youth model.
E-Governance 2015-16 Award for Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation
12.1.2016: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation won the National Award for e-governance. EPFO launched universal account number facility that enables workers to transfer PF deposits to anywhere in India. The award carries a cash award of Rs 2 lakh.
Cloned Buffalo Produced by Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes
12.1.2016: Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes produced a cloned buffalo. This is the second centre to achieve this. This was announced by CIRB director Dr Inderjeet Singh that their scientists achieved this success on 11th of December, 2015. This is the third institute to produced cloned buffalo in the world.
Nati Folk Dance Enters Guinness Book of World Records
12.1.2016: Nati folk dance which belongs to the Kullu district entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest folk dance in the world. 9892 women participated in the dance in traditional dresses during International Dussehra festival.
