Prannoy Roy Honored with RedInk Lifetime Achievement Award

01.05.2015: NDTV’s Executive Co-chairman Prannoy Roy is conferred with RedInka Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award was given to him in a function in Mumbai. The awards were presented by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. Others who won the awards were Sreenivasan Jain of NDTV ( Journalist of the year), Arnab Goswami of Times Now ( Impact Editor of the Year) and so on.

Kapil Dev Tripathi is the New Oil Secretary

01.05.2015: Senior IAS officer Kapil Dev Tripathi is appointed as the new oil Secretary. He was appointed to replace Saurabh Chandra. He belongs to 1980 batch of Assam Meghalaya cadre. He took charge and immediately me the officials of senior ministry.

Barjorji Pardiwala, Former Gujarat Speaker is No More

01.05.2015: Former Gujarat Assembly speaker Barjorji Pardiwala passed away in Ahmadabad. He was 86. He was elected to assembly from Valsad constituency as Congress candidate. He served as speaker from 1989 to 1990. He was also a lawyer and practiced law for nearly 40 years.

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan Won Sayyidina Imam Al Hassan Ibn Ali Peace Award

01.05.2015: The 90 year old Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan is conferred with Sayyidina Imam Al Hassan Ibn Ali Peace Award in Abu Dhabi. He is one of the respected scholars for his efforts in keeping peace. He also wrote many books and articles. He was honored with many awards such as Demiurgus peace award, Padma Bhushan and Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award.


Roaming Charges Slashed by Telecom Companies

01.05.2015: Telecom Companies like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, RCom slashed the roaming rates and the new rates came into effect from 1st May. The prices are slashed by 40 percent for call rates and 75 percent for SMS.

West Bengal is the First Open Defecation Free District in India

01.05.2015: West Bengal is declared as the first district in India as the open defacation free district. UNICEF and World Bank cooperated with the government to construct toilets across the district. Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee launched the Mission Nirmal Bangla and announced the district as ODF.
