2014 General Elections: A General Analysis

BJP WIN LEADING TO DIFFERENT CONCLUSIONS

2014 General Elections: A General Analysis

The results of the marathon general elections are declared. The elections and the results thereof are giving some indications

New Delhi: The general elections in the country came to conclusion with the results being declared. The BJP and NDA got clear mandate from the voters to lead this country for the next 5 years. The alliance got more than 330 MP seats (out of total 543 Lok Sabha Members). The BJP on its own won more than 280 seats. The magic figure to form government is strength of 272 Lok Sabha members.

The outgoing UPA headed by congress has been reduced to double digit. The tally by congress it less than 50 and total UPA is 61 seats. Performance of the congress is worst ever in its history. Though the many pre poll surveys indicated poor performance by congress and UPA, the actual results showed even worse performance by UPA. The total seats won by UPA is less than the seats by NDA in one single state of UP (BJP got 64 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in this state).

Congress has not been able to register double digit win in any of the states. The highest win by the party is in Karnataka (a congress ruled state) where it scored 9 MP seats and the opposition BJP got 15 seats.

A general analysis of the results gives some conclusions which are as follows:

  • Administration by UPA made the people of the country angry about the party.
  • The one point agenda by BJP i.e., development well received by the voters and accepted as well.
  • The ‘no responsible’ remote control government lost credibility in the eyes of the people.
  • BJP has been able to show a suitable alternative to UPA.
  • The agenda of the NDA has been well carried to the people of the country.
  • Mudslinging by congress leaders on BJP leaders has not been acceptable to the people.

As made clear by the BJP PM Candidate Narendra Modi, congress has not been able to open its account (of seats) in many states. The acceptability of BJP & NDA is clear from the results from UP. Here, BJP won 64 (out of total 80) MP seats. This mega performance is an indication about the peoples’ rejection of selfish politics by parties like congress, SP, BSP etc.

The new government is coming with clear mandate and absolute majority. It becomes the duty of the new government (with NaMo as its PM) to honor its commitments to the people of the country.
