Malkajgiri MP Contestants’ List Increasing

MALKAJGIRI MP SEAT FOR TOUGH FIGHT

Malkajgiri MP Contestants’ List Increasing

The present Malkajgiri MP constituency is covering 7 assembly constituencies and the list of MP contestants is becoming longer.

Hyderabad: One of the hot seats as far as Lok Sabhe elections is concerned in Hyderabad is Malkajgiri MP Seat. This constituency is presently represented by union minister Sarvey Satyanarayaan and covers assembly segments like Medchal, Secundeabad Cantonmetn, Malkajgiri, LB Nagar, Uppal, Kukatpally & Quabullapur.

The present position of MLA from this MP constituency includes: 4 congress, 1 congress who joined TRS, 1 independent who joined YSRCP & 1 Lok Satta.

The present MP from Malkajgiri Sarvey Satyanarayan scored 3.88 lacs votes in 2009 elections whereas the PRP (which got merged with congress) got 2.38 lacs votes. In the same elections, TDP (in alliance with TRS, CPI & CPM) got 2.95 lacs votes only. BJP contested on its own and got 1.30 lacs votes.

Accordingly the revised strengths of congress would be 6.26 lacs votes (congress + PRP) which is a clear winning proposal keeping in view the total voter strength of 12 lacs voters.

The demographics of this constituency comprises mostly of middle class people (nearly 8.5 lacs) most of them settlers. The cosmopolitan outlook is another specialty of this constituency.

However, post AP split & formation of Telangana, the political equations is expected to have a lot more changes in this MP area also. With majority of the voters being settlers, it is believed that T-sentiment might not work here and hence many parties (with no T-base) are eyeing this seat.

Some of the names appeared for this seat included Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, JP from Loksatta (part of the BJP grand alliance), J Pratap from YSRCP with Undavalli Arun Kumar from Jai Samaikyandhra Party being the latest. Arun Kumar is sitting MP from Rajamundry on congress ticket and he stood firm against splitting AP, he was instrumental in proposing no confidence motion on T-issue against the UPA headed by congress and ultimately got suspended from the party. Already TDP’s Revanth Reddy & M Hanumantha Rao (both are MLA’s from other districts on TDP ticket) are trying to contest from this MP seat. TRS is yet to announce its MP candidate from this seat.

Already the sitting MP Sarvey Satyanarayana is confirmed by congress as its contestant for the elections. Candidate opposite the sitting MP would be clear once the alliance of TDP with BJP is finalized.
