Sam Pitroda is the Technology Advisor for Odhisha State

6.2.2015: Odhisha government appointed Sam Pitroda as the technology advisor for the state. This was announced by chief minister Naveen Patnaik. Sam Pitroda was the former chairman of National Knowledge Commission. Pitroda will be given cabinet rank. He will work for Vision 2016, declared by Patnaik recently.

Gangadhar National Award for Poetry for Subodh Sarkar

6.2.2015: Bengali poet Subodh Sarkar is awarded with prestigious Gangadhar National Award. The award was conferred by Sambalpur University on the occasion of its 49th foundation day. The award was handed over to him in an event by Odhisha higher education minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy. Subodh Sarkar is a noted poet who also won Kendraiya Sahitya Academy Award in the year 2013. He also received Banga Bhushan Samman from West Bengal government.

Filippo Grandi is the new High Commissioner for UNHCR

6.2.2015: Filippo Grandi took charge as the new high commissioner for United Nations Refugee Agency. He will succeed Antonio Guterres who retired on 31st December. Antonio continued in the post for ten years.

CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for Syed Kirmani

6.2.2016: Syed Kirmani, the former Indian wicket keeper is honored with CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement award for 2015. He was given the award on 5th January. Indian test captain Virat Kohli also was selected for the Polly Umrigar Trophy for Cricketer of the year from BCCI.

England Player of the Year Award for Rooney

6.2.2016: Wayne Rooney, the skipper of Manchester United is named the England Player of the Year award. He won the award four times and this is the second consecutive time. He scored 51 goals in the year 2015. He broke the record of Bobby Charlton who scored 49 goals in a year. Jack Butland of Stoke City was chosen for Player of the Year award in Under-21 category.

Stand Up India Scheme Approved by Union Government

6.2.2016: Union government of India approved Stand Up India scheme which is meant to promote the women entrepreneurs belonging to Scheduled caste and Scheduled tribes. This scheme is likely to benefit 2.5 lakh women.
