Yash Chopra Memorial Award for Actress Rekha

27.1.2016: Bollywood actress Rekha is honored with third Yash Chopra memorial national award. She was handed over the award on 25th of this month by Maharashtra governor C Vidyasagar Rao. Rekha was born in Chennai in 1954. Her film career began in 1966 as a child artiste. Her first Bollywood film was Sawan Bhadon in 1970. The veteran actress won three Filmfare awards and also national award as best actress. Government of India honored her with Padma Shri in 2010. National Yash Chopra award was instituted by T Subbarami Reddy.

Sajeev Koshy Honored with Order of Australia

27.1.2016: Sajeev Koshy, a dentist settled in Australia is honored with Order of Australia, the highest civilian award recognizing his services to dentistry. The governor general of Australia honored him with this award on Australia Day Awards 2016. Koshy is head of endodontic at Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital. He also served as president of Indian dental association and president of Kerala dental council.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul Announced Retirement from International Cricket

27.1.2016: west Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul announced his retirement from international cricket. He played his first match in 1994 against England. His average in tests is 51.37 and the highest score is 203 not out. In one day matches, his top score is 150 and his average is 41.60. Shivnarine is the first indo Caribbean cricketer to represent West Indies in more than hundred test matches. He also led the team in 14 ODI matches and 14 test matches. He scored 20000 runs in international cricket. Honors he received during his 22 year career include Player of the year by International Cricket council in 2008 and he was also named Cricketer of the year by Widen Cricketers Akanack in the same year.

President Rule in Arunachal Pradesh

27.1.2016: President of India, Pranab Mukherjee approved the recommendation of union cabinet to impose president rule in Arunachal Pradesh. The earlier six months deadline expired on January 21st. Arunachal Pradesh governor jyothi Prasad Rajkhowa reported that there is no law and order in the state. Two advisers are appointed for the governor by Ministry of Home Affairs.
