Senior Counsel Kannan Ramesh Appointed as Judicial Commission in Singapore
28.2.2015: Indian origin senior counsel Kannan Ramesh is appointed as Judicial Commissioner for Singapore Supreme Court. Kannan Ramesh is 49. He will be in this position for two years starting from May 22, announced Singapore Prime Minister’s office. Judicial Commissioners in Supreme Court have the same powers as a Judge. Singapore Supreme Court now has 13 judges and 10 judicial commissioners and also five judges now.
Martin David Crowe Inducted by ICC into Cricket Hall of Fame
28.2.2015: ICC director and chairman of Cricket Australia gave the commemorative cap from Wally Adwards to Martin David Crowe during the inning break of New Zealand and Australia world cup league match and inducted Crowe into ICC cricket Hall of Fame. Martin Crowe is the former New Zealand Captain. He is the third from New Zealand to be inducted into Cricket Hall of Fame. Sir Richard Hadlee and Debbie Hockley are the others. Crowe started his career in cricket at the age of 19 and played 77 tests before he retired in 1995.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Announced Merging of FMC in SEBI
28.2.2015: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that Forward Markets Commission FMC will be merged in SEBI. This will help in controlling speculations he said. Industry sources welcomed this merger. NCDEX MD Sameer Shah said that this is an important decision related to commodity markets and is going to solve many problems. FMC functions with Mumbai as the head office and was established in 1953. This was brought under finance sector in 2013. There are four national level and six regional level exchanges related to commodity futures in India.
India Extends Visa on Arrival Facility for 150 Countries
28.2.2015: Union government of India is taking steps to boost tourism in the country. As a part of it the Visa on Arrival facility is extended to 150 countries. Presently this facility was offered for tourists from 43 countries only. This was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his Union Budget speech in Parliament.
Boris Nemtsov, Russian Opposition Political Leader Shot Dead
28.2.2015: Former Deputy Prime Minister and present opposition leader Mr. Boris Nemtsov is shot dead in Moscow, Russia. 55 year old political leader was shot by an unidentified attacker. He was to lead a demonstration against economic policies of Putin and also his support for Pro-Russian separatists. He was the member of regional parliament of Yaroslavi Oblast at the time of his death. He was elected to this post in 2013.
