Apple iphone 5C Outsold Flagship Android, Windows Phone Handsets

iPhone 5C that had poor reviews surprisingly has outsold all Android and Windows Phone handsets including Blackberry and Samsung Galaxy S4, during the last quarter of 2013. Though Apple does not reveal individual phone sales reports, analysts at Apple Inside have managed to break them down to reveal that iPhone 5C in fact outsold all flagship handsets of Android and Windows.

New York: The iPhone 5C was released along with flagship iPhone 5S as a cheaper alternative. But sales figures between October 1 and December 31 last show that it had out beat the competition. The number of iPhone 5Cs that were sold during that period are 12.8 m units. Comparatively, Nokia Lumia mobiles that make for 90 per cent of Windows Phones sales, sold just 8.2 units in the same period. Blackberry sold just 6 million units, that is just about half that of the iPhone 5C.

Android phones on the whole are outselling iPhones at present. But when it comes to sale of individual models the picture is entirely different. Samsung sold 9 m Galaxy S4 models. Even LG’s G2 that supposedly has a large market share sold just 2.3 m units.

Many factors had been in favor of the apparent boom in sales for iPhone 5C. The phone was sold at a discount just before Christmas (gifting time). The others like Samsung Galaxy S4 were available much before that, were much more expensive and were due for upgrade in the New Year.

Apple’s idea of launching a mid-range, affordable phone paid off well through the success of the iPhone 5C that was in fact written off by many. It may lead to further gains with the introduction of the 8 GB model last week in the UK.

The iPhone 5C is solid in performance. It has a colorful exterior running on latest iOS7 operating system. It has a faux leathered finish. As an upgrade of iPhone 4S it is a perfect option. Even though it has nothing new as compared to the normal iPhone 5s in the long run the Apple tag appeals. Its’ apps and camera are distinctive features. No wonder than it outsold even the likes of Galaxy S4 and Blackberry.
