Loss Of Aam Aadmi Party – Gain For BJP Or Congress?

The latest report dt.28th March 2014 indicates lesser votes for Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP. Who is the gainer of these votes?

New Delhi: The latest report by one of the poll surveys (by ABP Neilson vide report of Business Standard dt. 28th March 2014) states that AAP might be losing some of its vote share to give way for national parties. The report indicates that congress might get 1 out of 7 MP seats in Delhi whereas the balance 6 seats are to be shared by INC & BJP equally. Like the seats, votes share by these parties also stand revised as under:

AAP – 55% in January, 49% in February & 34% March 2014

BJP – 29% January, 30% February & 32% in March

INC – 9% January, 14% February & 28% in March

The above figures are clear indicators that loss of AAP is gain for congress. A question to be asked by AAP for itself - what could be the reasons for this downtrend. To a common man’s mind, the simple answer for this question would be: Why Delhi voter should continue to support AAP. During the recent assembly elections they gave overwhelming support to AAP, but AAP at first decided not to form government, then it took support from Congress and formed government that could last only 49 days. During the short lived government also, AAP did nothing to improve the lives of Delhi voters. Now with the Delhi assembly being kept in suspended animation stage, Delhi state might have to face assembly polls shortly (adding additional burden on the exchequer).

AAP’s position on various issues is also not convincing the Delhi voters. The party should have made it public regarding its plan of action as to 1) what it wants to do for Delhi voter (who gave the much needed initial support to AAP to form government within very short span of launching of the party), 2) What is going to be its stand as far as dealing with national parties like BJP, INC is going to be, 3) As it can’t form new government at centre on its own, what is going to be its stand – whether to support NDA, INC or third front (that is discussed very often by many political parties).

Kejriwal in his personal capacity is also expected to answer questions like: 1) Why he suggested dissolution of Delhi assembly, 2) During his government (of 49 days) he did not try to improve the living conditions much needed by the Delhi voter, 3) what is his stand regarding contesting against Modi in Varanasi –is he going to leave Delhi and stand by UP voters.

Quicker response from AAP & Kejriwal might elicit more support from Delhi voter for AAP.
