Audi Displays Android Tablet As Interface with its Cars at CES 2014

Audi’s press conference at CES 2014 drew attention to its brilliant innovation in the electronics sphere through introducing an Android tablet that interfaces directly with its cars.

Las Vegas:The mobile 10-inch Android-powered tablet that interfaces directly with Audi cars was made possible through a partnership of the company with Google and Open Automotive Alliance that was announced at the press conference.

Audi’s representative Ricky Hudi said that it is a perfect combination of latest technology from the world of consumerables with the world of cars. Backed by Nvidia’s Tegra 40 chip the tablet connects directly to the vehicle’s Wi-Fi. It connects with the car’s radio and other media functions and allows web browsing and other functions. It can withstand extreme temperatures and is tough enough to survive a crash. It is not sure if the tablet will be sold along with the new vehicles, separately or if it will be sold at all.

Discussing the area of electronics in car making, Hudi said that 90 per cent of innovations in car manufacture depend on electronics. Talking about connectivity besides other factors like lighting, Hudi said that Audi drivers navigate through Google maps, see updated traffic information, traffic lights and other functions with Audi connect. The signature Audi phone box has a wireless charger as well.

Also a second gen mobile Infotainment Platform 2 with quad-core Tegra 30 processor will go in to production this year along with Audi TT cars. Audi’s next generation Multi Media Interface (MMI) that connects with Google point-of-interest voice search plus multi-touch gesture controls is also in the offing. Hudi also revealed about piloted driving that requires technology the size of a notebook.

America’s representative of Audi said that in a survey it was realized that Audi car users used 262 tetrabytes of data in 2013 through Audi connect features, signifying the need for such equipment. Audi is definitely a long way in to using latest technology in customer care. Though driving and performance are its priority, next is Audi connect. Innovative laser lights which are automatically dimmed to avoid glare is another upcoming venture of Audi.
