16.3.2016: 2015 – 2016 Chameli Devi Jain Award is won by Priyanka Kakodkar and Raksha Kumar. The pioneering reportage and analytical skills of the duo are recognized and they are named the joint winners of the award. Raksha Kumar’s reports on perilous features of Union Governments proposal to amend Land Acquisition Act and other acts including coal Act helped here won the honor. Kakodkar reported the acute farming crisis in the state of Maharashtra and these were published in Times of India. Chameli Devi Jain award is given to women in media and was initiated in the year 1982.

UN Suspends Maria Sharapova as Goodwill Ambassador

16.3.2016: Maria Sharapova who was the goodwill ambassador of Unite d Nations Development Programme, is suspended after doping allegations. UNDP said that the tennis player who is a goodwill Ambassador for their organization is now suspended until the outcome of investigation is known.

10th March is World Kidney Day

16.3.2016: The second Thursday of March month of every year is observed as World Kidney Day. The day falls on the 16th March this year. This year’s theme is Kidney Disease and Children. Act Early to Prevent It. The theme is selected to create awareness about identifying the kidney diseases in children in early stages. The day is initiated by International society of Nephrology and International Federation of Kidney Foundations.

ICICI Launches Mobile Payment System iTap

16.3.2016: ICICI, largest private sector bank in India launched mobile payment solution based on Near Field Communication technology. iTap, the mobile solution is a step ahead of tap and solution that the bank is already offering, said the executive director of the bank. The ICICI bank card is to be connected to Pockets, digital banking service of the bank and the customer can then avail the iTap service. There is no need to carry the card to make payments. Pockets digital banking service is downloaded 3.3 million times till now.
