N Shakthan elected new Speaker of Kerala

12.3.2015: N Shakthan, deputy speaker of Kerala assembly is going to succeed G Karthikeyan as speaker. Karthikeyan passed away recently due to illness. Shakthan represents Kattakada constituency in Thiruvananthapuram. He was first elected to assembly of Kerala in 1982. He also served as minister of transport in Chandy government. He was born on 5th May, 1951.

Sports journalist K Baskaran Died at the Age of 80

12.3.2015: Veteran sports journalist K Baskaran who worked for free press journal, Indian express and The Times of India passed away. He is 80 and is survived by wife and four children. In his long career he reported on most of the games and generally on football. He also wrote a book Wills Book of Football.

Raj Babbar Filed Rajya Sabha Nominations from Uttarakhand

12.3.2015: Bollywood actor Raj Babbar filed nomination for Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand. He belongs to congress party. Ex chief minister Vijay Bahuguna, PCC president Kishore Upadhyay were in the race and finally party selected Raj Babbar. Nomination papers were submitted to Vidhan Sabha by Raj Babbar in the presence of chief minister Harish Rawat and PCC chief Upadhyay.

LIC to Invest 1.5 lakh Crores in Indian Railways

12.3.2015: LIC is going to invest Rs. 1.5 lakh crores in Indian railways in the coming five years. This is a great relief for Railways who did not have sufficient funds. LIC and Indian Railways signed an MOU to this effect. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley informed that LIC came forward to support Railways. The funds invested by LIC will be utilized for expansion, modernization and providing security to the passengers.

Air Asia Services Introduced between Kaulalampur and Visakhapatnam

12.3.2015: Malaysian budget air service Air Asia announced new routes which includes a service from Kaulalampur to Visakhapatam. The new services will commence from April 7. Visakhapatnam was chosen keeping in view the opportunities for development of tourism here. As a promotional offer, one way ticket from Kaulalampur to Visakhapatnam will be made available for only Rs. 4,000. This offer is valid till March 22.


Diego Forlon Announced Retirement from Soccer Immediately
12.3.2015: Uruguay soccer star Diego Forlon announced retirement from soccer. He played 112 international matches on behalf of Uruguay. He played world cup championship thrice. Forlon said in his statement it was difficult to take the retirement decision but he has to take the decision keeping in view his age and fitness.
