KP Sharma Oli is the new Prime Minister of Nepal

11.10.2015: KP Sharma Oli is elected as the new prime minister of Nepal. He defeated Sushil Koirala and this was announced by parliament speaker Subhash Nembang.  K P Sharma is from moderate communist party.  He was elected to parliament in the year 1991.  Oli spent 14 years in prison before joining the communist party.  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated KP Oli. He also tweeted that India wants to strengthen ties with Nepal further.

Natesan Ramani, Carnatic Flautist Passed Away

11.10.2015: Renowned flautist Natesan Ramani breathed his last in a Chennai hospital due to cancer. He was 82. He developed his own style in this field.  He learnt music from Sri Aazhiyur Narayanaswami Iyer.

Indian Shuttler Ajay Jayaram Wins Dutch Open Men’s Singles Title

11.10.2015: Ajay Jayaram, Indian shuttler won the Dutch Open Men’s Single Title. This is the fourth overall title for the Indian team.  Ajay defeated Raul Must. Raul is from Estonia and is ranked number 26.

Punjab National Bank won Beighton Cup of Hockey

11.10.2015: Punjab National Bank won the Beighton Cup hockey tournament. The match was played in Kolkata.  Punjab National Bank defeated Indian Oil Corporation to win the title.  The winner team’s goalkeeper Jasbir Singh is awarded with best player.  Fairplay trophy was won the Army XI. Beighton cup was instituted in 1895 at Sports Authority of India in Kolkata.  It is named after T D Beighton, the legal remembrance of Government of Bengal.  Indian Football Association used to run it.

Veteran Actress Manorama Passed Away

11.10.2015: South Indian film actress Manorama is no more. Fondly called as Aachchi, she acted in all south Indian languages in supporting roles. She is 78.  The actress was honored with Padma Shri in the year 2002.  She also won national award in 1989 for her role in the movie Pudhiya Pathai.  The versatile actress acted in more than one thousand films and holds Guinness world record.

International Day of Girl Child observed on 11th October  

11.10.2015: 11th October of every year is celebrated as the International Day of Girl Child.  Theme of this year’s day was “The power of adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030”. The day was created by United Nations in 2011.
