Review of Acer’s Travelmate B115 Laptop

Acer has come out with its really compact laptop that gives a good performance and is value for money. The Travelmate B115 as it’s called sports an 11.6 inch touch screen, with 11.5×8.3×8.3 inches dimensions. Its 64 bytes processor runs on Windows 8.1 OS. It is light weighing just 1.32 kg. But it comprises a spacious 500 GB hard drive. It is built quite tough for the traveller.

Taipei: The B1115 costs $379 which is cheaper than Lenova Z40. It has a simple design. The best thing about Acer is that it not in the race to make laptops that look like Apple MacBook or iPad Air. While the rest of the models try to produce Apple look alkies, Acer has kept to its own simple design of nearly-squared edges.

It sports three USB ports, USB 3.0, HDMI-Out, Bluetooth 4.0, and an SD memory slot, that are functional in almost all situations. The track pad is as good as those on Apple laptops. In these days of aluminium and silver where you cannot make out one laptop from another, the B115 is black with chrome touches, making a distinct mark of its own.

The B115 is backed by a powerful battery that lasts up to seven hours as claimed by its company. It is good at performing all the usual office tasks and the screen is really bright and clear on high performance Netflix video streaming.

But it is definitely not for gaming where it crashes frequently. Also the performance is a bit slow which is sometimes frustrating. But it has nothing to do with the keyboard more than with the unit’s speed and RAM. Also it comes with a lot of bloat ware that is unnecessary for serious office tasks.

But the TravelMate is different and says so with its slightly-less-than sophisticated looks. It may not be fast as the Apple products but if someone needs to send a team on work to a different location and needs to equip his staff, this pocket-friendly, efficient machine comes in handy.

Overall, Acer’s TravelMate B115 laptop is for those with modest needs and small budgets. It is good for checking a couple of Word documents and email. Moreover, it is portable, with a reasonably good battery life and is cheap. However, it is slow in performance with limited uses of the touch-screen and keyboard.
