General Elections 2014: Contribution Of Regional Parties

REGIONAL PARTIES CRUCIAL IN NEW GOVERNMETN

General Elections 2014: Contribution Of Regional Parties

With latest surveys indicating more active role by regional parties in various states, the expected position at the centre is getting clearer.

New Delhi: With pre-poll surveys indicating better performance by regional parties in various states, here is an analysis regarding expected new government.

The bigger states like West Bengal, Bihar, Maharasthtra, AP & TN are expected to be a major playground for regional parties in the respective states.

West Bengal is going to be dominated by Mamata’s All India Trinamool Congress reducing the strength of its main opponent communists. Maharashtra is definitely going to be getting more support Shiv Sena (supporting NDA) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP (in UPA).

Tamil Nadu is dominated by DMK (who is likely to support UPA) and AIADMK (neutral as of now). But here the remaining regional parties (like DMDK, PMK etc) have formed rainbow alliance with BJP.

AP is going to be another showcase where the regional parties i.e., TDP &YSRCP are going to clinch major seats in 25-seater Seemandhara region whereas TRS is expected to clinch major share in balance 17 seats from this united state which got split into 2 states with 2nd June 2014 as the appointed date.

The performance by regional parties is definitely an indication of expected support for the new government. Mamata got her party originated from congress and had played an active in Vajpayee’s NDA alliance. Now she is not in favor of NaMo & new version of NDA.

Maharasthra’s regional parties Shiv Sena & NCP are already in alliances with NDA & UPA respectively and as such there is not going to be major change.

Tamil Nadu’s DMK is with UPA and will continue to do so whereas Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK (expected to get 27out of 40 MP seats) is neutral as of now. But in view of the party’s partnership in the earlier NDA may bring it back to NDA once again after the poll results are declared.

Coming to AP, BJP is almost in alliance with TDP. This means BJP can’t form partnership with other two regional players in this state. YSRCP is a strong player in one part of this state whereas TRS is equally stronger in the other part of this state. Depending on the compulsions, alliance by these two regional parties can be known only after the poll results are declared.
