CONFIRMED EXTERNAL SUPPORT TO NEW GOVERNMENT

What Jayalalitha, Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, Mulayam have in common:The confirmed external support to new government in Delhi.

In view of the fast approaching general elections, each political party has its own agenda for garnering more votes and seats. Jayalalitha from TN, Mamata Banerjee from WB and Mayawati & Mulayam from UP have different game plan.

Hyderabad: Various pre-poll surveys are indicating the ever increasing support for the BJP-NDA throughout the country and it is expected that NaMo will be PM from this alliance. As a part of strengthening their alliance, BJP has been conducting discussions with various smaller and bigger local players and they want to conclude pre-poll alliance so that the NDA is strongly projected by the time elections approach.

As a part of this strategy, BJP concluded 7 parties Rainbow alliance in Tamilnadu and is in discussions with local players like TDP, Loksatta & Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena party. The NDA has local alliance with Shiv Sena in MH, SAD in Punjab, JD-S in two states of Karnataka & Kerala.

The alliance in Bihar got split because Nitish was against NaMo’s PM candidature announcement by BJP. Orissa’s BJD of Naveen Patnaik was once part of NDA but now this party is keeping its options open.

One of the recent survey by consortium of India TV, Times Now and CVoter projected that NDA would be able to win 227 MP seats whereas the UPA is expected to get 111 wins. The survey projected that AIADMK might win 27, TMC 24, SP 20 & BSP 21. The uniqueness of this group is that as of now, these parties don’t have any alliance with NDA/UPA and they are local strong players and leader-centric parties and as such the party president would be in a position to give directions for the party’s movement either pre-poll or post-poll.

AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa has CBI cases of disproportionate assets against her and similar is the case with Mayawati of BSP and Mulayam of SP. Mamata Banerjee of TMC is fairly free from any cases, but her recent speeches are indicative that she be given due importance in the formation of the next government and also a clear ‘no to separate Gorkhaland’ (most probably by NDA). While on the subject it is important to note that both TMC & AIADMK were part of NDA earlier. Keeping in view the past relationship with NDA as well as the requirement of additional funding TMC & AIADMK might extent outside support for the new government. Similarly SP & BSP also are expected to extend outside support for the new government and this is the commonality between these 4 regional political players.
