Shane Watson Retired from International Cricket

24.3.2016: Australian cricketer Shane Watson announced his retirement from international cricket. The all rounder already retired from test cricket. Ongoing world Twenty20 is going to be his last tournament. Watson began his cricket career in 2002. He took 168 one day international wickets. His best score in 185 against Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2011. He retired from test cricket in 2015, after the Ashes tour of England.

International Abilympics Started in France

24.3.2016: France is hosting the 9th International Abilympics. Abilympics are held every four years. This aims at developing skills development and employment. This is a competition to promote skills of persons with disabilities.

24th March is Observed as World Tuberculosis Day

24.3.2016: Every year, 24th March is observed as World Tuberculosis Day. Theme of this year’s Tuberculosis Day is Unite to End Tuberculosis. In developing countries, one and half million people are still dying due to tuberculosis. The day is observed to build public awareness about the epidemic. The day was the same day on which DR Robert Koch announced that he found the tuberculosis causing TB Bacillus. His discovery helped a lot in diagnosing and curing the disease and saving lives.

Broadband Connectivity to North Eastern States Inaugurated

24.3.2016: Prime minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the broadband connectivity to North Eastern States. The connectivity is done via Bangladesh. It was announced that a gateway for broadband connectivity is going to be set up at Agartala. This project is going to help Manipur, Nagaland and other north east states. The agreement for this project was signed between BSNL and Bangladesh submarine cable company limited when Modi visited Bangladesh in 2015.

ICGS Arnvesh Commissioned in Indian Coast Guard

24.3.2016: Fast patrol Vessels ICGS Arnvesh is commissioned in Indian Coast Guard. It was commissioned by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, the commanding in chief of Eastern Naval Command. The vessel is constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited. It is of 50 m long and achieves speed of 33 knots.
