01.06.2015: Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa sworn in as the new governor of Arunachal Pradesh. He is the 19th governor of the state. He succeeded Lt. Gen Nirbhaya Sharma. Jyoti Prasad is a former IAS officer who served as Assam Chief Secretary.

Ingeborg Rapoport is the Oldest Person to Receive a Doctorate

01.06.2015: A German Woman aged 102 years is going to be awarded doctorate at an age of 102 years. She is going to be the oldest person in the world to receive a doctorate when Hamburg University will award her the doctorate next week. The doctorate was not awarded to her till now as the Nazis blocked it as she was Jewish.

No Tobacco Day Award for Uttarakhand Health Minister SS Negi

01.06.2015: Uttarakhand health minister SS Negi is conferred with World No Tobacco Day Award. He won the award for his accomplishments in controlling the usage of tobacco. World No Tobacco day was observed on 31st May every year. World Health Organization launched ‘Stop illicit trade of tobacco products’.

Fifth President of Nigeria is Muhammadu Buhari

01.06.2015: Opposition leader Muhammadu Buhari became the fifth president of Nigeria. He won the president elections defeating Goodluck Jonanthan. Buhari is the leader of All Progressive Congress Party. The reason for the victory of Buhari is said to be the inability of the present government to deal with Boko Haram and to stabilize the economy.

Vajpayee to be awarded Bangladesh Liberation Award

01.06.2015: Former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is going to receive Bangladesh Liberation Award on June 6th. This award is going to be given to him by Bangladesh government for his support for liberation from Pakistan in 1971. India Gandhi was the other Indian to posthumously honored with this award.

Sania-Hingis Reach the Quarterfinals of French Open Women’s Doubles

01.06.2015: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis reached the quarterfinals of French Open in Women’s doubles category. They defeated Karin Knapp and Roberta Vinci to reach the quarter final. On the other hands Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna, the Indian duo are out of the tournament after they lost which ended the India’s challenge in the tournament in men’s doubles category.
