Hero, Bajaj and Honda Compete to Rule Two Wheeler Market in India

There is a tough fight for top position among bike manufacturers in Indian bike sector. Hero, Bajaj and Honda are following their own strategies to increase their sales. There was a lot of demand for 100 cc bikes in India but now it seems that 125 cc bikes are the hot favorites of customers.

New Delhi: Hundred CC motor bikes are the highest sold vehicles in India. Eighty percent of the total bikes that are purchased are hundred CC bikes. Every bike manufacturing company tries to have an upper hand in the market in this sector. But now the trend is that customers are going for 125 cc bikes slowly. It became a big challenge for the companies to retain their share in the 100 cc sector.

Hero Motocorp was number one bike company in 100 cc sector with models such as Splendor and Passion. Market share of this company is more than sixty six percent. Splendor was the top selling bike in the world till last year. But in the present financial year bike sales in 100 cc sector have come down by 2.3 percent between April and September, 2013. At the same time, the sales of 125 c bikes are increased by eight percent. Hero splendor sales decreased by 15.5 percent. The sales of Hero Motocorp 125 cc bike models such as Glamour and Super Splendor increased. While the market share of Hero decreased from 53.4% to 51.4%, market share of Honda increased from 11.4% to 15%.

Hero Motocorp introduced fifteen new models recently. The company wants to take advantage of any situation in which the sales of bikes increases in the market. The company managed to sell 14,16,276 vehicles during July-September months in spite of increased fuels prices, auto loan rates and so on.

Bajaj Auto sold 10,78,127 bikes in the first six months of this financial year. Market share of this company was 24% previous year and it is now only 21.5%. Bajaj introducer Discover 100M bike last month. It is also planning to bring another two new bikes in the common months. Presently Bajaj is selling Auto discover 100 T and also 100 4G models. Though sales of this company have slowed down in India, exports are positive when compared to last year. They have increased by 26%. Honda scooter market shared increased from 11.4% to 14.97%. It will be interesting see who will rule the market and what strategies the bike manufacturing companies are going to follow.
