IPL 6: Sachin Stars in Mumbai Indians Win Over Kolkata

Mumbai: Kolkata’s story in IPL 6 season is ended. Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders lost their eighth match in the series and were defeated 65 runs. The matched played between Mumbai and Kolkata was very important for the Kolkata team to be in the Knock out race.

Last year’s champion Kolkata Knight Riders failed to chase target of 171 runs set by Mumbai team. They could score only 105 runs in 18.2 overs. Mumbai bowlers Harbhajan claimed three wickets, Johnson and Ojha claimed two wickets each.

Mumbai won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 170 runs for the loss of six wickets. Smith scored 47 in 53 balls. Sachin scored 48 runs in 28 balls. Though the middle order batsmen failed to score runs, Dinesh Kartik gave his team a good scored. His 34 not out runs in 18 balls included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Sachin is declared the man of the match. Sachin Tendulkar came in to form for the first time in IPL 6 season. He added 93 runs to the first wicket along with Smith.

Kolkata lost Gambhir’s wicket in the fourth balls of the first over. Mumbai bowlers restricted the Kolkata batsman. Bisla fought a lone fight and tried to put the innings on track. Ojha claimed the wicket of Yousuf Pathan. Harbhajan sent Kallis to the pavilion. Next wicket to fall was that of Morgan. Kolkata lost 5 wickets for 77 runs in 12.2 overs. Though the team played 19 overs, it could score only 105 runs.

This is the eighth win for Mumbai team. The team played 12 matches till now and won 8 matches. It is in the second position in the points tablet with 16 points. Chennai is in the first place with 9 wins in 12 matches and 18 points. Delhi and Pune are on the bottom of the tablet with 6 and 4 points. Delhi won only 3 matches and Pune won 2 matches.
