IPL 6: Mumbai Indians Defeat Kolkata by 5 Wickets

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders failed to perform well on their home ground and lost the league match that was played in Kolkata to Mumbai Indians. Smith who scored 62 runs in 45 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes was declared the man of the match.

Kolkata won the toss and decided to bat first. In 20 overs the team scored 159 runs by losing 6 wickets. Yousuf Pathan hit three sixes in the very first over bowled by Harbhajan. Gambhir also hit a six in that over and 26 runs came off the over. In the second over Yoursuf was sent back to the pavilion by Johnson. Kallis was the next batsman he scored 37 runs in 38 balls.

Gambhir felt uncomfortable facing the bowling of Ojha. He was out in the eighth over. Kallis and Gambhir added 41 runs to the second wicket. Kallis also lost his wicket after sometime when the score of Kolkata was 92. Tiwary and Morgan added 54 runs to the fourth wicket. Tiwary scored 33 in 24 balls and Morgan scored 31 in 25 balls. In the last over Malinga claimed the wickets of Tiwary and Das.

Chasing the target of 160 runs set by Kolkata, Mumbai scored 162 runs in 19.5 overs losing 5 wickets. Fans expected a good inning from Sachin who was celebrating his birthday but he disappointed. Smith and Pollard added 50 runs to the fourth wicket. In the last over Mumbai needed 10 runs. Pollard tried to hit a huge shot and was out. Rayudu and Harbhajan hit a boundary and sixer and Mumbai won the match. This is the third defeat for defending champion Kolkata. The win is a birthday gift for Sachin.
