India Clinch Champions Trophy 2013: Dhawan Man of the Series

England won the toss and asked India to bat first. India scored only 129 runs and England could not chase the small target. India won the last champions Trophy.

Birmingham: India played like a real champion and won the lat Champions trophy 2013. India defeated England on their home country by 5 runs and won the Champions trophy for the second time. England won the toss and decided to field first. The match was reduced to 20 overs per side because of rain.

Indian Innings

India scored 129 runs by losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Kohli scored 43 runs in 43 balls with four fours and one six. Jadeja remained not out on 33 in 25 balls with two fours and two sixes. Dhawan scored 32 in 24 balls with 2 fours and one six. Bopara claimed 3 wickets by giving just 20 runs. Later chasing the target of 130 runs, India scored only 124 runs by losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Morgan and Bopara tried to save the match by scored 33 and 30 runs respectively. Ishant sent these two batsmen in two successive balls. Ashwin, Jadeja and Ishant claimed two wickets each.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Dhawan opened the innings slowly. Anderson and Brad bowled well and did not allow Indian batsmen score much runs. Rohit Sharma was clean bowled by Brad. Later Bopara took the wicket of Dhawan first and later sent Raina and Dhoni to the pavilion in the same over. By the end of 13 overs, India lost 5 wickets and scored 66 runs. At this stage, Kohli and Jadeja played responsibly. Kohli played good shots and Jadeja supported him well. Both these batsmen added 47 runs in 33 balls to the sixth wicket.

England Chasing the Target of 130 Runs

In the second over of England innings, Umesh Yadav sent Cook to the pavilion. Cook scored only 2 runs. Ashwin claimed the wickets of Trott and Root. England lost 4 wickets for 46 runs. Morgan and Bopara added 64 runs for the fifth wicket. Ishant claimed the wickets of these two batsmen to turn the match in favor of India.

By the end of 17 overs, England’s score was 102/4. In the last three overs, England needed 28 runs. Morgan hit a sixer and in 16 balls England needed 20 runs. But in the next two balls Bopara and Morgan were sent to the pavilion in two successive balls. In the next over England lost the wickets of Butler and Bresnan. Another 15 runs were needed off the last over to win the trophy. England scored only nine runs in the over which was bowled by Ashwin.

Sikhar Dhawan – Man of the Series

Sikhar Dhawan is the top scorer in the tourney. He scored 363 runs in five matches with 90.75 batting average. Three hundreds were scored in the tourney of which two were made by Dhawan. Another hundred was scored by Sangakkara.
