Panasonic Returning To Smartphone Market Next Month?

After pulling out of the mobile market last autumn, Panasonic is said to be making a comeback by unveiling its new smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2014.

Las Vegas: Panasonic is about to return to the smartphone market and we may see their next device unveiled at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress – 2014 in Barcelona.

Panasonic only pulled out of the smart phone market a few months ago, after its Android-powered Eluga smart phones failed to catch on. But now a new rumour says it might jump straight back in and start making smart phones again. According to Japanese site Asahi, the company is set to launch a rugged 5-inch shockproof smartie at MWC in February.

In September, Panasonic announced it would stop making smart phones to focus on its Toughbook range of PCs and tablets. Instead the company has focused on areas where the consumer technology giant has a stronger presence such PCs and tablets. It didn’t come as a big surprise. Within two years, the company lost an estimated 9.6 billion. Though its Eluga smart phones weren’t exactly bad, there wasn’t much making them stand out from the rest of the Android crowd. Even that waterproof construction wasn’t enough. Almost a year earlier, the company hinted it might stop making mobiles.

It already did so once. In 2001, Panasonic was one of the biggest mobile manufacturers in Japan, but it stopped making phones in 2005.

Coming to the rumored smartphone, It is still unknown what this phone will be all about, but we’re hearing it will be a rugged device with a 5-inch screen, making it ideal for use in the construction industry.

Apparently Panasonic is targeting users such as construction site workers for its next handset, suggesting that this may not be a particularly mainstream device. Panasonic is said to be negotiating with major US construction companies, seeking a partnership.

Unfortunately that is the only information we can give the smartphone lovers about the expected reentry of the Panasonic mobiles into the market right now.
