HP Re-entering Smartphone Markets with 6 & 7 Inch Phablets

HP is expected to come with two new phablets for emerging markets. These phabelts are likely to be released in countries such as China, India and Philippines. It is also expected that these devices will be based on Android operating system.

Bengalru: : American computer accessories making company Hewlett-Packard is re-entering smartphone market. HP is going to launch six and seven inches screen size tablets in the coming few years. It is informed that the smartphones will be based on Android operating system which has a market share of nearly eighty percent in the smartphone market. The phablets are going to be released in the price range of Rs. 12,000 to 15,000, sources informed.

HP is believed to be making the phablets targeting emerging markets such as India, China and Philippines. The re-entry of HP in to smartphone market is confirmed by a higher official of the company.

In 2010, HP acquired American company Palm for 1.2 billion dollars and introduced WebOS based smartphones models. But the tablets and smartphones failed to become to gain the attention of the consumers as the market is dominated by Android and iPhone operating systems. HP announced that it is abandoning making the smartphones in August 2011.

As the demand for smartphones and tablet PCs are increasing beyond expectation, the sale of personal computers are falling and thus many personal computer making companies are entering smartphone and tablet making. Lenovo entered Indian smartphone market in November 2011. Lenovo is offering android smartphones for affordable prices and is gaining popularity. The company is already selling smartphones in China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Russia. Acer, Dell and Asus are also in the smartphone and tablet market.

In November, 2014 a HP phablet was spotted in benchmarks. The phablet was dubbed HP Slate 6 Voice Tab and revealed that it support SIM slot and will also support voice calling. The device is likely to be powered by 1 GHz Marvell PXA 1088 processor and Vivante GC 2000 GPU. The tablet was seen having a display density of 240 ppi.
