San Francisco: Nintendo Co. launched Wii U, the first home videogame console into the market. Wii U will be available from November 18th 2012 in North American markets. Nintendo Co. Scheduled the release of the game a week before holiday shopping season begins.

Nintendo priced its new videogame console at a starting price of $300. Main competitors for this video game console are the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. Both these are the leaders in the gaming market since a long time and are very popular with the gamers. It now has to be seen whether Nintendo’s Wii U can give competition for these game consoles.

Nintendo however is claiming that it is confident of recording a sale of 5.5 million gaming consoles by the end of 31st March, 2013 across the world. Nintendo’s earlier release was Wii console and it has its fans in family customers. The popular characters of the video gaming console are the Donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda.

The release of Nintendo’s Wii U console created high expectations. GameStop store informed that there are 50,000 customers who booked the videogame console by paying a deposit of $50. The president of GameStop said they are only worried whether they will have the supply to meet the huge demand.

The new feature in the Wii U launched by Nintendo is the Gamepad. Using this, the gamers will have new ways to control the game through stick and button controls. The players will also use the Wii Remote which was also provided with the earlier version. There is also T-Vii service which is in-built that gives the convenience of controlling TV sets and other services from Gamepad.

The long term sales of Wii U cannot be predicted as the video gaming market is dull now. With the introduction of tablets and smartphones video games are being taken up by very few people. The uncertainty in the market affected companies such as Nintendo most. Nintendo’s customers are those who do not want to spend hundreds of dollars and prefer cheaper games.

Nintendo launched Wii in the year 2006 in North America which went on to become a big hit. Within three years of its release, it crossed the mark of 50 million. Nintendo till now has sold 97,000 million consoles. Since the last two years, only single digit sales growth is registered by the company.
