2nd Innings Of Movie Celebrities In Tollywood
The female leads in movies find ready market in other fields once they are attaining certain age.
Hyderabad: The movie career is very attractive. The attraction level is same for male and female celebrities. Once the female leads attain certain age, they will not be eligible for lead roles. This is a general rule with certain exceptions like Rekha who continued their lead roles with longer innings.
The career graph for female celebrities in movie world is fixed. After playing the lead roles in the initial days, these persons would be lacking opportunities to act as female lead in view of the fact that every day there is an inflow of heroines from other languages as well as from the native language also.
The option available for these senior female artists would be to accept roles like sister, mother, in law etc. Almost all the female lead artists in Tollywood like Savitri, Anjali Devi, Jamuna, Shavukaru Janaki etc., went through the same process.
The latest generation heroines are having different path as well. These artists are finding suitable role as anchor, judge etc., in the reality shows in various TV channels. Many heroines, after marriage and spending some time in married life, are taking this path. Examples include yester year heroines like Roja, Meena, Rambha, Simran etc.
Some other senior artists are opting for politics as career. They are offered political career by some political party or the other. They venture into direct politics and get elected to the assembly/parliament. Artists falling in this category include likes of Jayaprada, Jayasudha etc. In view of the popularity enjoyed, Jayasudha got invitation from YSR to contest the Secunderabad MLA seat on congress ticket. She won the elections and went for successive election but without success.
Another yester year actress Jayaprada also ventured into direct politics via Telugu Desam Party. After spending some time in the regional party in AP, she chose to play active role in UP politics. She joined Samajwadi Party of Mulayam with Amar Singh as her political mentor. After some career as parliamentarian, Jayaprada chose to leave SP to join Ajit Singh’s political party. But this time she could not get success and hence she might come back to AP politics.
Another yester year actress Roja has a different story altogether. She was very active in TDP. Subsequently she approached YSR Congress Party (of YS Jagan). She also continued her career as judge/commentator for reality show on small screen. Now with her success in the assembly elections from Chittoor District her career will continue in political circle.
Depending on the talent and the options/opportunities that come across, the female leads are trying to continue their life in limelight.
