Fourth Consecutive Defeat for Mumbai Indians in IPL 7

Mumbai Indian suffered fourth consecutive defeat in IPL 2014. The batsmen let their team down once again to lose the match to Delhi Daredevils.

Sharjah: Despite being the defending champion, strong batting line-up and powerful bowlers, Mumbai Indians team is failing in IPL 2014. It lost the match to Delhi Daredevils by 6 wickets. In the league match that was played in Sharjah on Sunday, they scored 125 runs in 20 overs by losing 6 wickets. Though top order batsmen failed, Pollard scored 33 in 30 balls with two fours and two sixes, Gautam scored 22 in 18 balls with three fours.

Later Delhi Daredevils chased the target in 18.5 over by losing four wickets opener Vijay and captain Pieterson played crucial role in the victory. Vijay who scored 40 in 30 balls with four fours and one six is declared the man of the match.

Mumbai Indians lost Rohit Sharma and Tare’s wickets early. The openers were out when the team score was just 17 runs. Delhi bowlers took this advantage. Anderson, Hussey and Ambati Rayudu were sent back by Unadkat and Nadeem. Pollard and Chidambaram Gautam played intelligently and helped the team score cross hundred runs mar. After Gautam was out, Harbhajan joined Pollard. In the last two overs, 25 runs were added to the team score.

In the beginning of Delhi’s innings, Mumbai bowlers restricted the batsmen. Openers of Delhi found it difficult to score the runs. In the first power play, Delhi got only 31 runs. In the seventh over, D Kock’s wicket fell and Duminy joined Vijay. Both of these added 45 runs to the second wicket. Captain Pieterson hit a six and two boundaries in the fifteenth over. In the 16th over of the innings, Malinga claimed the wickets of Duminy and Dinesh Karthik which created pressure on Delhi team. But Pieterson and Kedar Jadav scored quick runs and the team won the match with seven balls remaining.

IPL 7th season started two weeks ago and Mumbai Indians team is still waiting for a win in the tourney. Mumbai Indians captain said that batting is their problem and few changes were made to the batting lineup to correct the situation but it did not give any good results. The team appointed Rickey Ponting as the adviser of the team. He was the captain of Mumbai team in 2013 for two matches.
