Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 vs Karbonn Titanium S5+: Which one’s better?

There are plenty of mid-ranged smartphones in the market and every month some new handsets join the league. Samsung’s latest product in this category is its Galaxy S Duos 2 while that of Karbonn is Titanium S5+. Both have recently hit the launchpad for about Rs 10,000.

Let us have a comparative look at these two smartphones:

Display:The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 comes with a 4 inch WVGA touch display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution while the Karbonn Titanium S5+ features a 5 inch qHD IPS touch display with 960 x 540 pixels resolution. The Karbonn offering takes the lead in the screen department.

Processor:Galaxy S Duos 2 has been equipped with a 1.2 Giga Hertz dual core processor. On the other hand, Titanium S5+ has been powered by a 1.3 Giga Hertz quad core processor. On paper, the Karbonn offering wins but Samsung has been known to optimise its devices for a better experience than what’s on paper.

Operating System:Both the smartphones function on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform. The S Duos 2 has a better chance of getting atleast one update its lifetime whereas the Karbonn offering won’t really get one so the Samsung device wins in this regard.

Camera:Galaxy S Duos 2 comes with a rear camera of 5 mega pixels while Titanium S5+ provides you with a rear camera of 8 mega pixels. Both the cameras feature auto focus and LED flash. I’ll chose the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 because of the better quality images being produced by it despite having lesser number of mega pixels.

Memory:Galaxy S Duos 2 offers a 768 MB RAM, on the other hand, Titanium S5+ provides 1 GB RAM. Both the devices carry a 4 GB inbuilt storage space and up to 32 GB expandable memory with the help of a micro SD card. When it comes to multitasking, the Titanium S5+ might just surge ahead but the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 ain’t far behind either.

Other Features:Both the handsets are dual SIM devices with dual standby option. They incorporate GSM SIMs only. Both feature 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

Battery:Galaxy S Duos 2 works on a battery of 1500 mAh capacity while Titanium S5+ runs on a battery of 1800 mAh capacity but it has a bigger screen with a better resolution to power so both of them are expected to last for a similar duration of time.

Price:The price of Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 is Rs. 10,999 while that of Karbonn Titanium S5+ is Rs. 10,636 so there’s not much of a difference in this regard.

Our Take:After considering the various features as well as the price of the two smartphones, my verdict is in favor of Karbonn Titanium S5+. It provides you with a bigger and better display, faster processor and more RAM at a similar price. But then I can’t write off the S Duos 2 either. It’s a decent package from the world leader.
