Waheeda Rehman has been selected for Inaugural Centenary Award

17.11.2013: Waheeda Rehman has seen selected for Inaugural Centenary Award. She will be given this award at 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on 20th November 2013. Waheeda will be given this award for Indian Film Personality of the year 2013. She is a veteran actress of Bollywood. Five member team has unanimously selected her to this award. To mark 100 years of Indian Cinema, this award has been instituted by the Government of India. Along with citation, 10lakh Rupees Cash will also be given to her.

New Maldivian President is Yameen

17.11.2013: 6th President of Maldivian is Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He was sworn as a president on 17th November. This sworn ends the two years of political turmoil that threatened to isolate the country internationally. Yameen is the half brother of former autocratic Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Vice President of Maldives is Mohammed Jameel.

Doris Lessing, Nobel Prize Winner, is no more

17.11.2013: Doris Lessing, British Nobel Prize winning author passes away at London. She was 94 years old. In 2007, she became Oldest Recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature. At that time she was 88 years old. She was the 11th woman to win this award. Doris had written 80 books in her lifetime which includes nonfiction, plays, short stories, two operas, poetry. Famous works are The Summer Before the Dark, Memories of a Survivor, The Golden Note Book.

Gautham Sidharth selected for IFM Award

17.11.2013: Burra Gautham Sidharth has been selected for 2013 Award which will be given by Institute of Theoretical Physics and Advanced Mathematics Einstein Galilei (IFM). This institute is in Italy. He is the Director of BM Birla Science Centre. Award includes a Gold Medal and IFM Diploma.

Czech Republic Won the Davis Cup 2013

17.11.2013: Czech Republic won the Davis Cup 2013 after Redek Stepanek defeated the Serbian Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in the 5th rubber of the final by BNP Paribas Final in Belgrade. With this win, Stepanek became the 3rd player in the history to win two Davis Cup Finals live 5th singles rubbers.

17.11.2013: According the new research, Saudi is the World’s largest active Twitter users and lowest tweeters user is India. 1/3rd of the Saudi’s people are using Twitter, according to Peer Reach.

First Check post between India and Bangladesh border Inaugurated

17.11.2013: First integrated check post along India and Bangladesh border & Agartala and Akhaura was inaugurated jointly. This was inaugurated by Bangladeshi Counterpart Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. To facilitate easy movement for the goods and passengers across the border this check post has been created. This help in increasing the relationship between India and Bangladesh.

International Students day observed

17.11.2013: International students day observed across the world. This day was started from 1939. Nazi storming of the University of Prague after demonstration against killing of Jan Opletal and worker Vaclav Sedlacek against the German occupation of Czechoslovakia and execution of 9 student leaders and more than 1200 students sent to the camps and then closed all the Czech Universities and colleges were closed. To mark this incident this day was observed across the world.

Malta to Host Common Wealth Summit 2015

17.11.2013: Despite an international outcry over alleged rights violation and war crimes, Malta was unanimously chosen as the host of the next common wealth summit 2015 after Mauritius pulled out in protest against the decision to hold this year’s gathering in Sri Lanka. At the end of Biennial Summit in Colombo, Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma stated that Common Wealth Summit 2015 will be held at Malta.
