Volkswagen has not unveiled any power packed compact hatch back from the past few years and the World is eagerly waiting for the model which VW has promised a couple of years ago. The concept of high performer, Beetle R has been unveiled about two years ago but there is no further update about the model so far. To the surprise of all, some enthusiasts have spotted a test mule of the model without much camouflage.

Beetle R has been flagged as 2014 release, and thus we can expect the model to go on sale somewhere next year. The respective test mule spotted was not at all wearing any camouflage and it confirms that the model is going to be production ready very soon. A lot of features of the upcoming Beetle R 2014 seem to be adopted from the 2015 Golf R concept hatch back. It is the first time that the model has been seen without camouflage since its official debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show held in 2011.

Under the hood, the new VW Beetle R is going to be equipped with a 2.0 liter turbo charged inline 4 cylinder engine that is capable of generating around 296 horsepower at the peak along with 280 lb – ft of torque. The same engine is going to be fitted in the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R. Engine comes accompanied with a 6 speed manual transmission gear box as standard and all the variants of the model are going to be all wheel drive vehicles. From the spy images revealed, we can clearly see the exclusive design of the model and changes that differentiate the model from the others.

The 18 inch fully alloy wheels that are called otherwise as ‘Talladega’ wheels are one of a kind and they can be seen on only two models in the market the Beetle R 2014 and Golf R 2015 respectively. The compact hatch comes with dish sized drilled rotor brakes along with huge calipers. The new Volkswagen Beetle R hatch back will be launched in the European market by the end of 2014 and it will be launched in the global markets by 2015.
