Chaukhutia is beautiful town in Almora district of Uttarakhand, India. Name is derived from Chau khut which means four feet that means four ways. First way is towards Ramnagar, Second way is towards Karanprayag, third way is towards Ranikhet and fourth way is towards Tadaktaal.
What to see in Chaukhutia:

Taragtal: This Lake is surrounded by dense green cover. It is best picnic and scenic beauty place for the tourists of this place.

Rudeshwar Mahadev Temple: Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During Mahashivratri period devotees rush is more. This temple is located on the banks of River Ramganga.

 

What to see around Chaukhutia:

Pandukholi: It is located 5kms away from Chaukhutia. These are caves. It is believed that these caves were built by Pandavas during their stay in the Himalayas.

Lakhanpur Temple: Katyuri Kings built this temple. It is located 6kms away from Chaukhutia. Lakhanpur Fair is most famous at this temple. This fair celebrates in the month of October.

Dwarahat: It is located 18kms away from this town. Group of 55 ancient temples is the major attraction of this place. These temples were built by Katyuri Kings. Gujarati School of Art can be seen here. Dwarahat means way to heaven. People who visit this place will feel that they were in the premises of God.

Doonagiri: It is located 33kms from this town. Vaishno Devi Temple is the major attraction of this place. It is believed that when Lord Hanuman carrying Sanjeevani Parvath a piece of parvath falls here. So this place is named as Doonagiri.

Jaurasi: it is located 16kms away from this town. Major attractions of this place are herbs cultivation, ayurvedic herbs and Tea Gardens.

Karnaprayag: It is one of the Panch Prayag. It is situated at confluence of Pindar River and Alaknanda River. This is the religious site for Hindus. Journey of Ganga River starts from Karnaprayag plains. It is one of the best summer gateways. Goddess Uma Devi Temple is most attractive and ancient temple in this town. Karnaprayag Attractions are Uma Devi Temple, Karna Temple, Nauti Village, Adventure activities.

 

Getting to Chaukhutia: only way to reach this place is through road. From Kathgodam, Karnaprayag, Kasauni, Almora, Nainital etc buses come to this place. Nearest railway station is located at Kathgodam which is located 143kms away from this town. Buses and Taxis are available to reach Chaukhutia from Kathgodam railway station. Nearest airport is located at Pantnagar which is 112kms away from Chaukhutia.

 

Getting around Chaukhutia: It is a small town. One can explore this place on foot. Walking along the town is the best way to enjoy the natural beauty. Buses and Taxis are available to visit the surrounding places of Chaukhutia.
