The first Ubuntu based smartphone is going on sale in Europe in a week’s time from now. Dubbed as BQ Aquaris E4.5, the handset was till now available with Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system and will now be available with Ubuntu operating system.

Madrid: BQ Aquaris E4.5, the first Ubuntu based smartphone is offered with 4.5 inch display and the resolution of the screen is 540 x 960 pixels. Type of display is IPS. Body dimensions of the handset are 137 x 67 x 9m mm and it weighs 123 grams. The handset is powered by 1.3 GHz quad core MediaTek processor and is coupled with 1 GB RAM. Internal storage provided is 8 GB. Memory can be expanded up to 32 GB via micro SD. It features 8 megapixel primary camera and 5 megapixel front facing camera. It runs on Ubuntu Touch operating system. Connectivity features of the handset include WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth. Other features are 3.5 mm headphone, FM Radio and micro USB charging. It comes with dual SIM capabilities. The handset comes packed with 2150 mAh and is offered with black color option.

BQ Aquaris E4.5 will go on flash sale soon in Europe and is priced EUR 169.90. Canonical is the company behind the development of Ubuntu and they joined hands with BQ to release the handset. There is no word on global availability of the handset.
