Tollywood Female Leads Preferring Item Songs

Now the latest trend seems to be item songs. The established female leads prefer item songs for several reasons.

Vijayawada: Now the latest trend is in favour of item songs. The once famous trend of item songs is appearing to be renowned in different shape.

In olden days, in addition to the regular lead roles, there used to be a vamp character (club dancer type of roles preferably by artistes like Jyotilaxmi, Jayamalini, Anuradha, Vijayalalitha etc.) During the late 1980’s onwards there started a trend where heroines started accomplish the role of the so called vamp with their dress in dance sequence etc. That trend ensured that there is no separate vamp character in the movies.

Now the same trend is re-appearing in the movies. Now the new name for the same practice is ‘item song’. This practice of item song is gaining more and more crazy in view of the fact that the audience get full enjoyment with the presence of their favourite female leads (at least in one song) and the artistes are happy that they get good amount of remuneration for appearing in just one song.

The present day Tollywood’s top female leads include Tamanna, Samantha, Kajol, Shruti Hasan etc. All these female leads are busy with their projects where they are performing female lead role. However, with a view to cash the craze that these stars are enjoying, directors are planning item songs by these artistes.

Tamanna is female lead in Mahesh Babu’s new project Aagadu with Sreenu Vytla. Already there is confirmed news that Shruti Hasan is appearing in an item song in this movie. One more rumour is that Samantha is also making a special appearance in the same movie. This is in view of the fact that Mahesh Samantha pair gained much popularity with their consecutives success in the form of Dookudu, SVSC etc.

Similarly, Samantha is the female lead role in Bellamkonda Suresh’s Alludu Sreenu (where Suresh’s son Bellamkonda Sreenivas is debuting as male lead). This film by VV Vinayak is having item song by Tamanna.

Another top female lead in Telugu film industry is Kajal. This Mumbai beauty after recording reasonable success in Telugu, tried to get an entry in Bolllywood and in this process she lost some of her ground to other female leads. With a view to regain her lost popularity Kajal is doing an item song in comedy horror movie ‘Geetanjali’ (where Anjali of SVSC fame is the female lead role).

The item song culture is a win-win situation for all the stakeholders i.e., the artistes, director and the audience as well.
