Review of Phillips Sonicare Diamond Clean Black Electric Toothbrush

Phillips Sonicare Diamond Clean Black electric toothbrush claims to really whiten your teeth. “Whither than white”, it claims. Priced at 250 Pounds a set, the toothbrush set does more than just the routine cleaning of the teeth.

Tokyo: Phillips Sonicare Diamond Clean Black is a rather long name for the simple and elegant affair. Black is the colour of the brush that is done in matte finish. On pressing the power button white words appear indicating us the mode of brushing. The green light shows how much battery power is left. There are no ports, no plugs or sockets as power is provided wirelessly. The brush sits in a glass tumbler that is actually a charger, connected to a power point, for several hours before reuse.

The toothbrush can be washed clean after use as it is waterproof. Like all standard electric toothbrushes, the brush head of Sonicare Diamond Clean Black can be swapped out when needed. The set comes with one standard and one compact toothbrush to get started. More can be bought when these wear out.

The Phillips Sonicare is very well built and comfortable to hold, though it is not light like a plastic brush. The toothbrush can be charged like any mobile phone. A glass tumbler sits on a special plinth that is connected to a power point. The brush sits in the tumbler until it is used. Phillips has thoughtfully added a micro USB charging case for charging the brush while travelling. And this works well enough for using the brush twice a day.

There are five programs: Clean, White, Polish, Gum Care and Sensitive. Each works its magic on exactly what they describe. The brushing modes vary on the degree of oscillation they deliver. The Sensitive is not so violent while polish really goes for it. It is better than conventional brushing in the sense that there is a proper clean feeling after brushing.

According to Phillips, the Diamond Clean range is able to remove seven times more plaque than a normal non-powered toothbrush. It does this by driving more fluid around the mouth and working harder on the teeth than one could by pushing the brush backwards and forwards. There is a timer that indicates when the brushing mode has to be changed and also automatically stops the brushing process when the job is done.
