Polaroid Socialmatic Instant Camera Arriving Later This Year?

The Polaroid Socialmatic might at first glance appear to be a concept it is in fact a real product, arriving later this year sporting WiFi and running Android. This is a camera and printer in one.

Las Vegas: Polaroid has taken an idea that many have had in the past, and they are bringing it to consumers with their latest creation, Socialmatic. This crazy looking device looks quite similar to the Instagram icon but it is actually a camera and printer, all in one. Beyond just being any camera, it is powered by Android, and on the back of the device it features a 4.5 inch touch screen to allow for easy navigation.

ThePolaroidSocialmatic, which has “a unique square shape and vintage design,”gives users the choice of using a 14 MP front camera or 2 MP rear camera to capture images that can be posted tosocial networking sites via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth Internet connection from a mobile phone.

It also features a 4.5-inch touchscreen “LCD display,” an LED flash, MicroSD card slot and 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. The LCD display on the front of the camera that can offers “Mood Assist A.I”. In some promo materials, the display shows a smiley face, and others it shows a QR code. It looks like the QR codes can actually be used as geo-tags so you can share where you’ve put up printed photos.

Bringing the best of vintage photography to the future, it can printa 2-by-3-inch full-color sticker-backed Zink photo in under a minute. One of the neatest parts of the device is that it features a built in printer which doesn’t even require ink. Printing pictures is quick and easy making use of Polaroid’s 2 X 3 inch ink-free paper which they call Zero Ink (ZINK) paper. The images that are printed are smudge-proof as well as being water and tear resistant.

Unlike old Polaroid photos, there’s no shaking involved — these prints come out completely dry and they’re fully developed by the time they’ve left the camera. Before printing, images can be touched up and edited, plus clip art, icons and text can be added. Thanks to an agreement between C&A Licensingand Socialmatic, thePolaroidSocialmatic instant camera will be available later this year. The price has not yet been announced.
