Hacker Cup Hosted by Facebook is ready to start from 25 January

HYDERABAD: Like past two years, Facebook is going to organize Hacker Cup 2013 from January 25, for which the registrations are open.

The 1st place winner gets $10,000 USD (approx. 5.5 lakhs rupees) and there are prizes for up to 25th place rank holders. The cup has a qualification round, starting from January 25, followed by 3 subsequent rounds and one last final round which will decide the winner.

Hacker cup hosted and administered by Facebook is an international programming competition. It started in 2011 for hackers competing against each other for fame, fortune, glory and a shot the coveted Hacker Cup. In this cup, programmers will be tested for accuracy and speed for solving algorithmic problems. There is no restriction for the programmers to use any programming language or development environments. So they can adopt any of them to solve the problems.

Last year Hacker cup had over 8,000 participants from 150 countries and the winner emerged from Russia. Facebook has promised to take the top 25 of this year’s cup to its headquarters in Menlo Park, CA. The contest will go on till the end of March.

However, there are some rules for this year’s Hacker cup such as the input files will need to be solved in six minutes. And the input and output files must be of the same format. A person must upload the output and the source code within the six minute timer. If any mistake happens or the wrong file is uploaded, he can re-upload any number of times within the six minutes time frame. If the timer goes out, the last submission will be graded and the winners will be intimated by email.

According to Facebook, hacking is the core to building anything on Facebook. They are always trying to find better solutions by hacking. And the social network giant views the Hacker Cup as a chance to compete against World’s best programmers for awesome prizes and the title of World Champion. Facebook has also said those who have registered in the previous year will automatically be registered for this year’s competition, only they need to check whether the details are up to date or not.
