Darjeeling is a town of West Bengal, India. This place is famous for Himalayan Railway and tea Industry. Darjeeling is popularly known as Queen of the Hills. Till 19th century, Darjeeling was controlled by Kingdom of Sikkim. During the British rule this place was developed as hill station to escape from the summer heat. This place is most famous for flora and fauna also.

 

What to see in Darjeeling:

Toy Train: This place is also known as Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. Diesel trains run to and from New Jalpaigiri. It is one of the few hill railways.

Kali Temple: It is located on the banks of the river. Dussehra celebrates most grandly in this temple for 6days.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park: Area covered by this park is 44hectares. Major attractions of this park are Panther, deer, gorals, Himalayan Black bear, Siberian Tiger, Red Panda and Himalayan Wolf.

Ghoom Monastery: It is located in Ghoom of Darjeeling. Maitreya Buddha at the entrance of the monastery is so attractive. Some of the rare Buddhist manuscripts can also be seen here.

Observatory Hill: It is believed that Lord Indra had fallen thunderbolts at this place.

Lloyd Botanical Garden: This was established in 1878 by William Lloyd. It is famous for best collection of Orchids. More than 150 species of plants can be seen here.

Happy Valley Tea Gardens: It is one of the beautiful places in Darjeeling. In terms of aroma and delicacy of taste, Darjeeling tea is one of the finest teas in the world.

Japanese Temple: It is one of the major attractions in Darjeeling. It is located close to peace pagoda in the town. Major attraction of this temple is White architecture.

The Mall and Chowrasta: It is main shopping area located at the heart of the City. Major shopping’s of this place are artefacts, bookstores, Curio shops, food stalls, woollens.

Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre: This was setup to give shelter to the refuges of Tibetans who come to India during Tibet China war. Carpet weaving centre is also located here. It is locate 10kms away from the city.

Senchal Lake: This is most attractive picnic spot. From all over the world tourists come to this place to enjoy the nature here. It is located 11kms away from the city.
