JAYALALITHAA CASE JUDGEMENT CAN BE A PATH SHOWER

Jayalalithaa Case Judgement: An Eye Opener For Corrupt Politicians

With the Bangalore special court delivering the verdict in DA case against Jayalalithaa, there is going to be a large scale tremor in hearts of corrupt politicians.

Chennai: The 18 years long fight in the case of disproportionate assets owned by Jayalalithaa came to an end with the Bangalore special court judge delivering the verdict convicting her in the case and the penalty for the same is 4 years imprisonment and Rs.100 crores fine.

The case was pertaining to assets worth Rs.66.65 crores (disproportionate to known sources) and the fine is 150% of the alleged amount i.e., Rs.100 crores.

While the legal formalities regarding nominating successor to the position of CM of Tamil Nadu to take control from Jayalalithaa and her bail petition as well as appeal in higher courts are still to be worked out, the judgement in one sense is a clear indication that the courts can do real justice and also ensure proper recovery for the benefit of the exchequer.

If the judgement in its true spirit is taken forward, we can see lot more changes in the behaviour of our leaders. Our leaders (read politicians) till now are confident that they can scot-free taking the help of loopholes in our system and also various laws.

The Bangalore special court judgement is a torch light to show path for future judgements in the sense that the corrupt politicians (if convicted by court) can be jailed as well as imposed penalty as much as 150% of the alleged amount of corruption.

As on date, India is having many cases pending against many corrupt politicians. The list of politicians involved in many scams is who is who of Indian polity. Some of the names include Lalu Prasad Yadav in fodder scam in Bihar, disproportionate assets cases against Mulayam & Mayawati in UP, successive chief minsters of Maharashtra in Adarsh Housing scam.

Besides, there are also large cases pending against many politicians like YS Jaganmohan Reddy in AP, 2G scam involving Raja the then union communications minister, coal scam involving the then coal minster of state Dasari Narayana Rao and the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Then there is the airport scam running into almost Rs.85000 crores.

If all these cases are resolved, our country will become one of the corruption-free countries in the world.
