Volkswagen Passat Teased – 2.0L Bi-turbo to beat Honda Accord, Audi A4 and Skoda Superb

The German Luxury Car making giant Volkswagen has revealed a teaser image of the upcoming edition of the Passat Saloon online recently which has gone viral over web within a few hours. As per the information, Volkswagen is likely to reveal the first look of the 8th gen Passat Saloon online on 3rs of this July and the official public debut of the model is going to be held at the Paris Motor Show 2014 which will be held in the month of October this year.

There is not much scope for the model in the Indian market as we could observe the poor sale volume of the former edition variants of the model. Volkswagen was able to sell just 7 units of the model in India so far this year. Thus Volkswagen India is looking forward to introduce the brand new edition of the model in order to drag the attention of buyers to the max possible extent. But there is no specific schedule for the Indian launch of the model so far. The respective unit shown in the teaser image was covered with a black coloured cloth and the head lights along with LED day time running lights were visible through the cloth.

The 8th gen Passat Saloon is built on the same MQB platform which was used for making Audis’s A3 and Skoda Octavia recently. The Saloon measures around 4769 mm in length, 1462 mm in width and 1820 mm of height respectively and it is going to be around 85 kilograms lighter than the former edition. As per the information, Volkswagen is going to offer the upcoming Saloon with a revised grille that will be built in one piece and a new set of LED head lights along with a set of LED daytime running lights. Though the size has been reduced slightly, the vehicle is still spacious and comfortable.

Volkswagen is likely to offer a wide range of exclusive and premium features with the new Passat such as

  • Emergency assist system that completely stops the vehicle when the driver is immobilized
  • Traffic Jam Assist system
  • Front Assist System with City Emergency Braking
  • Parking Assist System

The manufacturer is also offering a 12.3 inch TFT display, upgraded infotainment system and 360 degree area view and etc. We can expect the 8th gen Passat to get powered with a 2.0 litre Bi turbo diesel engine that is capable of generating around 237 bhp at the peak along with 500 Nm of torque. Volkswagen is going to offer 4MOTION technology with the upcoming Saloon which distributes the power to all the four wheels via a 7 speed automatic transmission gear box. It is also informed that a plug in hybrid version of the model will also be available which will be powered with a 1.4 litre TSI engine basically. With the addition of an electric motor, the combined output of the model would be around 208 bhp at the peak along with 400 NM of torque. We can expect the model to reach Indian market by the end of 2016 mostly.
