This board was established in 1966 under the provisions of the Maharashtra Act No.41 of 1965. In the state of Maharashtra this board conducts both 10th class and 12th class examinations. Examination was conducted in 9 divisional boards namely Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Latur, Amravati, Kolhapur, Nasik, Aurangabad, Mumbai and Pune.
Every year board conducts both 10th class and 12th class examinations. In the same way board conducts these examinations. In this year 10th examination was written by 17 lakh candidates and 12th class examinations were written by 14 lakh candidates.
