Audi A3 1.8L TFSI Spotted near Mumbai – BMW 1 Series and Mercedes Benz A Class in trouble

The German luxury car maker Audi had a successful start this year and there is no hesitation in saying that Audi has been a headache for Asian automotive giants who are willing to have a breakthrough in the luxury car segment of the Indian market. Audi is likely to add one more member to its Indian portfolio in the form of A3 and an enthusiast has spotted a test mule of the upcoming A3 sedan while it was being driven on roads near Mumbai.

Audi has introduced the A3 sedan to Indian buyers at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo which was held in the month of February. The manufacturer has not made the model available for sale yet and w could expect the same to happen by the end of next month most probably. The respective test mule spotted is equipped with a 1.8 litre turbo charged TFSI petrol engine that could produce around 180 hp at the peak very comfortably and it comes mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission gear box by default. There may not be any other transmission option for the Indian buyers and the respective combination is capable of accelerating the sedan to 100 kmph speed from rest within just 7.2 seconds only.

A3 sedan is going to be a front wheel drive vehicle basically and Audi is likely to offer a hatch back, a convertible and a higher end sedan under the same series of models globally. The manufacturer is also offering diesel version of the A3 sedan which was also spotted on Indian roads earlier this year. The diesel version comes powered with a 2.0 litre TDI engine that generates around 150 hp and it comes mated to a 6 speed manual transmission gear box in the base version. A higher end version of the model is also expected that could mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission gear box as a choice with the same engine.

Audi’s A3 sedan have to be capable of tackling Mercedes Benz’s A class sedan and BMW’s 1 Series in the Indian market. The price of the model is expected to be around Rs. 25 lakhs most probably. The model is expected to be imported into the country via CKD route mostly.
