Kejriwal in Tihar Jail: Arrested in Nitin Gadkari Defamation Case

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by police in connection with a demotion case filed by Nitin Gadkari. Delhi Court suggested him to furnish a bail bond for Rs. 10,000 but Kejriwal refused to do so stating that he has not done anything wrong and he is ready to go to jail fighting against corruption.

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal is arrested in Nitin Gadkari defamation case. Delhi high court issued an order to arrest Kejriwal in a defamation case filed by Nitish Gadkari. Kejriwal refused to submit a bail bond and thus Patiala court ordered the police to take him into custody.

Arvind Kejriwal made some comments on Bharatiya Janata Party ex president Nitish Gadkari and Nitish Gadkari filed demotion against him. Court said it will give bail if a bail bond of Rs. 10,000 is submitted but Kejriwal refused. Police arrested him and it is said that he will be in police custody till May 23. He was sent to Tihar Jail and will be produced in the court on Friday.

AAP released a list of corrupt leaders earlier which also contained the name of Nitin Gadkari. For this Gadkari filed a defamation case. The case came for hearing and the court suggested Kejriwal to submit personal bail bond. Kejriwal made it clear that he is ready to go to jail. With this the police took him to the Tihar Jail under tight security.

Kejriwal will now have to spend this night in Jail no.4. He may have to spend two days in Jail as he will only be produced before the court for next hearing. Aam Aadmi party workers are protesting opposite Tihar jail. AAP leaders said that the reason why Kejriwal refused to submit personal bond is not money related but is a matter of principles. The party is fighting against corruption and instead of furnishing any bond, they are ready to go to jail.

The party sources also said that they did not expected that their leader will be sent to jail. The leaders will meet to discuss the situation. The case was filed by Gadkari in February this year. He said his image is tarnished as Kejriwal called him corrupt.
